The New Sounds of the Hippocampus are produced from simultaneous recordings of an 8×8 electrode grid and software written to transform raw time-varying signals into both rhythmic and chaotic sound. These methods generate systematic comparison of hippocampal data sets allowing highly structured patterns to emerge. Open-source OpenDX and other software enabled viewing of certain spatiotemporal patterns of neuronal activity within the hippocampus. It is this activity we hear as well as see.
